WASHINGTON - George Washington gymnastics sophomore Chelsea Raineri was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Specialist of the Week for the third time this season and freshman Cami Drouin-Allaire earned her second Rookie of the Week award, the league office announced on Tuesday evening.
Both gymnasts helped the Colonials to a tri-meet victory over visiting Western Michigan and Yale on Sunday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Raineri won the vault title on Sunday by becoming just the fourth student-athlete in GW gymnastics history to achieve a 9.95 on the apparatus, joining teammate Drouin-Allaire, who accomplished the feat on February 20, Erin Aiken (2004) and Kristen Simpson (2008). The Telford, Pennsylvania, native added a 9.85 on floor exercise to tie for first place and 9.725 on uneven bars (8th).
Drouin-Allaire took second place in the all-around with a score of 39.15. She tied Raineri for the floor exercise title with a score of 9.85 and added a personal-best score of 9.80 on vault (T-3rd). She also tallied marks of 9.625 on uneven bars (10th) and 9.625 on balance beam (T-10th).
Drouin-Allaire was also named the Rookie of the Week following the first weekend of competition on January 13 in addition to being named the Gymnast of the Week last Tuesday.
GW will conclude its regular season with a home-and-home against EAGL rival Towson this weekend. GW will visit the Tigers on Friday evening before Sunday's Senior Meet at the Smith Center.
