WASHINGTON - The George Washington gymnastics team will carry its undefeated record into this weekend's California road trip when it visits Sacramento State on Friday evening (7:00 p.m. PT) and UC Davis on Sunday afternoon (1:00 p.m PT).
GW is a perfect 9-0 on the season after Sunday's dual-meet victory over Bowling Green, marking the team's best start in program history. The Colonials are currently ranked 26th in Division I with an average team score of 195.025, the highest among East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) teams.
The Colonials also hold national rankings of No. 19 on both vault (49.225) and floor exercise (49.10).
A number of Colonial gymnasts have garnered top-five EAGL rankings through the first four meets of the regular season.
The freshmen duo of Jillian Winstanley and Cami Drouin-Allaire are each ranked in a pair of events. Winstanley currently sits second overall in the all-around with an average score of 39.044 and ranks third on uneven bars, averaging 9.806 per routine. Drouin-Allaire, who won her first all-around title in Sunday's victory over Bowling Green, ranks second overall in the conference on vault (9.85) and is tied for third in the all-around with an average of 38.006.
Sophomore Chelsea Raineri, who is coming off event titles in both the vault and floor exercise last weekend, leads the EAGL on floor exercise with an average routine of 9.844. She has twice hit 9.90 on vault this season and has scored 9.85 or better on floor exercise on three occasions.
Rounding out GW's gymnasts in the top-five of the EAGL rankings are freshman Sara Mermelstein and senior Courtney Willoughby. Mermelstein is tied for second on balance beam with a 9.781 average while Willoughby is tied for third on floor exercise with an average of 9.80.
Friday's meet at Sacramento State marks the first of five consecutive away meets for the Colonials.
