WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis team defeated Atlantic Region rival Howard, 4-2, on Saturday in its first of two home matches this weekend at the Southeast Tennis Center.
Howard (1-5) took the early doubles point, winning matches at the first and third positions, though GW junior Lana Robins and freshman Marie-Louise Decamps paired up for a victory in the No. 2 slot, 8-2, for the Colonials (4-2).
In singles action, the Buff and Blue quickly tied up the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win by sophomore Allison Hansen in the No. 6 position. Teodora Radosavljevic, Grace Egger and Taylor Nederlander each notched straight-set victories in the Nos. 1, 3 and 5 spots, respectively.
The Colonials yielded just one singles match on the day in third-flight action, while freshman Marie-Louise Decamps nearly staged a comeback victory in second-tier competition before GW clinched the team win, leaving the rookie's match unfinished.
Radosavljevic moves to 5-1 in singles competition on the spring, while Decamps remains at 4-1.
GW will take on its first ranked opponent since March 15, 2013 on Sunday as No. 46 Harvard (4-3) visits the Southeast Tennis Center for a match beginning at 11 a.m.
