WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set to compete at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships, held from Wednesday, Feb. 18 - Saturday, Feb. 21 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The Colonials will take on Atlantic 10 foes at the SPIRE institute for the third-straight year, after the men took sixth and the women claimed eighth in last season's Championships. The men will take on seven opponents in returning champion St. Bonaventure, Fordham, George Mason, La Salle, Massachusetts, Saint Louis and A-10 newcomer Davidson, while the women will face 10 squads in defending champion Richmond, Davidson, Duquesne, Fordham, George Mason, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis.
In last year's championships, the women set three program records, in the 400-yard individual medley by sophomore Lauren Law (4:23.32), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.45) and 800- free relay (7:27.67), while then-senior Caroline Myers reached the podium twice, winning the 1650-yard free (16:35.61) and placing second in the 500- free (4:50.46).
On the men's side, the Colonials reached the podium five times a year ago, twice by senior Goran Koprivnjak with his runner-up, school record-setting performance in the 200- butterfly (1:48.12) and a third-place finish in the 200- individual medley (1:49.65). Senior Adam Rabe touched the wall in a time of 1:59.35 in the 200- breaststroke to earn a silver medal, while sophomore Liam Huffman finished third in the 500- free (4:29.35) to round out the top championship performances of 2014. GW also set a new program record in the 800- free relay (6:35.92) and matched an existing top-program time of 1:31.32 in the 200- medley relay.
