ST. LOUIS - George Washington junior forward Jonquel Jones was named the Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Player of the Week for games played Feb. 2-8, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced on Tuesday.
Tabbed the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Monday for the seventh time this season and fifth time in the last six weeks, Jones averaged a double-double of 15.0 points and 15.5 rebounds while adding 3.5 assists in GW's wins over A-10 rivals Davidson and Dayton.
After tallying 12 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in a victory over the Wildcats on Thursday, Jones posted 18 points, 18 boards and three helpers as the Colonials completed the regular-season sweep of the Flyers, the unanimous preseason favorites in the A-10.
A Naismith Trophy candidate from Freeport, Bahamas, Jones is the only player in the Atlantic 10 averaging a double-double on the season, as she leads the league and ranks fifth in the nation in rebounding (12.3 rpg) and ranks sixth in the conference in scoring (15.7 ppg).
St. Bonaventure's Marcus Posley was named the Men's National Player of the Week, marking just the fifth time a conference has won both awards in the same week.
All Division I conference players of the week are eligible for the national award.
