KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- George Washington men's soccer juniors Tobi Adewole and Garrett Heine were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Midwest Region Third Team, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Adewole and Heine are GW's first All-Region selections since Andy Stadler was tabbed to the Mid-Atlantic Region First Team in 2009, and it marks the first time that two Colonials have earned All-Region honors in the same season since Stadler and Abimbola Pedro in 2007.
GW's leading scorer in 2015, Heine finished the season ranking third in the Atlantic 10 with nine goals and fourth with 22 points -- the highest totals by a Colonial since Yoni Berhanu tallied 11 and 26 in 2011. An A-10 All-Conference First Team selection, the San Diego native also ranked fifth nationally with six game-winning goals, the most by a Colonial since Stadler had six in 2008.
An A-10 All-Conference Second team honoree, Adewole was a key member of GW's defense which posted seven shutouts on the season, tied for second-most in the league, and allowed a conference-low four goals in eight A-10 games. The native of Ashton, Maryland, started 16 of the 17 games in which he played and ranked second on the team with 1,413 minutes on the pitch. A 2013 A-10 All-Rookie Team selection Adewole totaled four points on a goal and two assists on the year.
The Atlantic 10 is well-represented on the All-Midwest Region Teams with 14 selections among the 34 overall honorees.
Heine and Adewole helped lead GW to an impressive turnaround in 2015. Picked to finish 10th in the A-10 preseason poll, GW posted its first 10-win season since 2011 and went 6-2 in conference play to claim the A-10 regular-season title.
