GW's Success Against Other Power Conferences
GW's win over Illinois, a member of the Big Ten, was its 11th over teams from the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC and American Athletic conferences in the last three seasons and its fifth of 2015-16 -- the Colonials also have wins over Houston, Iowa, Memphis and Villanova. GW is now 11-6 over teams from other power conferences since 2013-14. Here is a brief look at those 11 wins:
Nov. 15, 2013 -- GW 75, #10/11 California 72 (Pac-12): Megan Nipe scored a career-high 31 points and Danni Jackson hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:11 left as GW picked up its first win over a nationally ranked opponent since 2008.
March 23, 2014 -- WNIT -- GW 76, Villanova 66 (Big East): Four Colonials reached double figures, led by Jackson's 19 points and a double-double from Jonquel Jones, as the Colonials picked up a road win in the second round of the WNIT.
Nov. 28, 2014 -- Junkanoo Jam -- GW 74, N.C. State 66 (ACC): Jones tallied 22 points and nine rebounds in front of her hometown crowd to lead four double-digit scorers for GW on the first day of the Junkanoo Jam in Freeport, Bahamas.
Nov. 29, 2014 -- Junkanoo Jam -- GW 79, Purdue 59 (Big Ten): Jones scored all 14 of her points in the second half and added a game-high 14 rebounds to earn MVP honors after leading the Colonials to the Junkanoo Jam Freeport Division title.
Dec. 9, 2014 -- GW 72, Georgetown 60 (Big East): Hannah Schaible lifted GW past its District rival from the Big East with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Dec. 15, 2014 -- GW 63, Memphis 44 (American): A stellar defensive effort by the Colonials limited the Tigers to just 44 points on 29.7 percent shooting. Jones notched a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Nov. 26, 2015 -- Lone Star Showcase -- GW 82, Houston 78 (American): Jones (20 points, 13 rebounds) and Caira Washington (22 points, 12 rebounds) combined for 42 points and 25 boards to lead the Colonials past the Cougars on Thanksgiving Day. Washington connected on 9-of-11 from the floor.
Nov. 27, 2015 -- Lone Star Showcase -- GW 81, #25/21 Iowa 77, 2 OT (Big Ten): In a battle of top-25 teams, GW outlasted Iowa in double-overtime behind Jones' record-setting performance. The senior, who scored the go-ahead bucket with 1:28 remaining in the second extra period, tallied 23 points and a school-record 26 rebounds, breaking a mark that had stood for 39 years.
Dec. 6, 2015 -- GW 68, Memphis 62 (American): Jones (18 points, 17 rebounds) and Brianna Cummings (10 points, 10 rebounds) each posted double-doubles as the Colonials rallied from a 16-point second-quarter deficit to defeat the Tigers on the road.

Dec. 28, 2015 -- GW 70, Illinois 57 (Big Ten): Cummings scored 10 of her career-high 20 points in the fourth quarter, when the Colonials outscored the Fighting Illini, 25-16, to pull away for the 13-point win.
Quick Hits
• Illinois entered the Monday's contest averaging 76.4 points per game, but GW limited the Illini to a season-low 57 points and 31.1 percent shooting (23-for-74). One of the top 3-point shooting teams in the country, ranking 13th in the NCAA with 8.8 treys per game entering Monday, Illinois shot just 12.5 percent from deep, including 0-for-12 in the second half, and matched a season low with three 3-pointers.
• GW won the battle of the boards for the 12th straight game to start the season, outrebounding the Illini, 56-35. Since the start of last season, the Colonials have grabbed more rebounds than their opponent in 43-of-45 games. GW's 56 rebounds against Illinois were one shy of its season high of 57, which was set at Memphis on Dec. 6. The Colonials continue to lead the nation in rebounding (51.3 rpg) and rank fourth in rebound margin (+17.4 rpg).
• Sophomore Brianna Cummings scored 10 of her career-high 20 points in the decisive fourth quarter, when GW outscored Illinois, 25-16, to turn a two-point lead into a 13-point cushion. In addition to points, Cummings, who was a day shy of her 20th birthday, set career bests for field goals and free throws made, as she connected on 7-of-11 from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line.
• Senior Jonquel Jones posted her 10th straight double-double since Nov. 21, tallying 10 points and 14 rebounds. The nation's leading rebounder (15.5 rpg) and the Atlantic 10's leading scorer (17.8 ppg), Jones is tied for second in all of Division I with 10 double-doubles on the season. She also became the seventh member of GW's 800-rebound club (811) and her 891 career rebounds (including her time at Clemson) are tied for 10th-most among all active players in Division I.
• Junior Caira Washington registered her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, marking the third time this season that two Colonials have each notched a double-double in the same game and the second time it was accomplished by Jones and Washington. The duo has now recorded double-doubles in the same game 12 times in the last three seasons.
• Junior Hannah Schaible scored 13 points to give GW four players in double figures for the second time this season.
• For the third game in a row, GW made more foul shots than its opponent attempted. The Colonials went to the line 27 times and connected on 18 free throws, led by Cummings' perfect 6-for-6 clip, while Illinois was just 8-of-14 from the charity stripe.
• Jones swatted a career-high seven blocked shots -- including five in the opening quarter -- against the Illini, equaling the 11th-highest total in Division I this season and the 14th-highest single-game total in program history. Mary K. Nordling had a school-record 10 blocks against Iona in 1992. With 32 blocks this season, Jones ranks sixth all-time at GW with 134 in her career as a Colonial. In addition, GW's 11 blocked shots were its most in a game since recording 12 at Morgan State on Nov. 28, 2012.
• Senior Dalacy Anderson, a native of the Chicago area, made her first career start in her home state.
Quotable
"I am so proud of how we stuck to our plan. Even when they would make a run, we stuck to our guns and had really solid defense and rebounding throughout. I think these are things that we can take confidence in and use to prepare us for the conference schedule." -- Head coach Jonathan Tsipis
