GW Women's Tennis Opens Tiger Classic With Consecutive Wins

TOWSON, Md. - The George Washington women's tennis team opened its 2014 fall slate with the first day of Towson's Tiger Classic on Friday afternoon at the Towson Center Tennis Courts.
The Colonials defeated Delaware, 3-1, before sweeping Mount St. Mary's, 3-0.
The three-day tournament is comprised of seven schools from the ITA Mid-Atlantic Region, including Delaware, Loyola (Md.), Mount St. Mary's, fellow Atlantic 10 member Saint Joseph's, host Towson and UMBC.
Making her first collegiate appearance, freshman Teodora Radosavljevic defeated Delaware's Arielle Shuren in a super tiebreaker by set scores of 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) at the No. 1 singles spot. Classmate Marie-Louise Decamps earned a win at No. 2 singles over the Blue Hens' Danea Jonjic, also in a super tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-4). Sophomore Grace Egger posted the Colonials' third win in the fourth flight, as she nearly blanked Amanda Studnicki, 6-2, 6-0.
Egger claimed her second straight singles victory of the afternoon when she defeated Mount St. Mary's' Sruthi Kamprath, 7-6, 6-2, in the No. 1 slot, and junior Egle Jakuciunaite earned a 6-0, 6-4 win over The Mount's Cassandra Powell in No. 2 singles action. The rookie duo of Decamps and Radosavljevic topped Jennifer Smith and Kelly Smith by scores of 6-2, 6-2 in doubles play.
GW continues competition on Saturday morning when it faces Loyola at 11 a.m. and Towson at 3 p.m.
