The George Washington women's basketball family today mourns the loss of University of Richmond Associate Head Coach and former GW student-athlete Ginny Doyle.
As a collegian, Doyle played for the Colonials for two seasons before transferring to Richmond and helping the Spiders to the 1991 CAA Championship. An all-conference honoree in both seasons in Richmond, Doyle is the program's all-time leader in career free throw percentage and once set an NCAA Division I record with 66 consecutive free throws made.
"GW women's basketball is a family, and today we mourn the loss of one of our members," said George Washington Head Coach Jonathan Tsipis. "Not only was Ginny an excellent player, but she went on to distinguish herself as one of the premier coaches and recruiters in the game. We'll compete with heavy hearts next time we see Richmond, and our hearts go out to Ginny's family and friends and the entire Richmond community."
Richmond women's basketball's Director of Basketball Operations Natalie Lewis also perished in the accident that took the life of Doyle.
