Rookies Lead GW Golf on Day 1 of Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. - Freshmen Vince Palazzolo and Zack Bailey both carded two-round totals of 4-over-par 146 and are tied for 24th place after Day 1 of N.C. State's Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Monday.
Palazzolo recorded his first collegiate under-par round with a 1-under 70 in the second round on the par-71, 7,307-yard layout to climb 24 positions in the 93-player field following an opening 5-over 76. Bailey improved seven spots on the leaderboard with a second-round 1-over 72 after opening with a 3-over 74.
The rookie duo was consistent over Monday's 36 holes: Palazzolo made 26 pars and played the par-5's in 2-under, tied for sixth- and ninth-best in the field, respectively, while Bailey converted 27 pars and was 1-under on the par-3's, tied for fourth- and fifth-best, respectively.
The Colonials are in a four-way tie for 10th in the 18-team field along with Campbell, Loyola Maryland and Temple at 25-over 593 (296-297), though just 12 shots separate fifth-place Seton Hall (582) from 15th-place Wofford (594).
Host N.C. State holds the 36-hole team lead at 2-under 566, three shots ahead of East Tennessee State, while ETSU's Adrian Meronk has the individual lead at 4-under 138.
Rounding out GW's scoring from Monday is sophomore Lucas Farmer in a tie for 42nd at 8-over 150 (73-77), senior Jack Persons in a tie for 52nd at 9-over 151 (73-78) and junior Steve Piela in 93rd at 24-over 166 (83-83).
The Colonials will begin the final round on the back nine beginning at 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, playing alongside the Owls and Fighting Camels.
