GW Men's Swimming Finishes Fourth at Potomac Relays

WASHINGTON - The GW men's swimming and diving team opened 2014-15 at the annual Potomac Relays on Friday night at American's Reeves Pool.
The Colonials tallied eight top-five finishes to earn fourth out of seven teams with a total of 54 points in nine relay events.
GW opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as the team of freshman Gustav Hokfelt, senior Adam Rabe, sophomore Ben Fitch and senior Goran Koprivnjak clocked in at 1:37.25. The 800-yard freestyle relay of sophomore Bogdan Balteanu, freshman Adam Drury, junior Oliver Keegan and sophomore Liam Huffman touched the wall in 7:10.21 for a fourth-place finish.
In the 3x100-yard butterfly relay, Fitch, Keegan and Koprivnjak took home third with a time of 2:36.44, and the 3x100-yard backstroke team of Hokfelt and freshmen Clarke Indek and Parker Boutwell finished in fourth in 2:42.90. Fitch, Rabe, Drury and Boutwell teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the 500 free relay with a time of 4:17.72, and Koprivnjak, Hokfelt, Rabe and Balteanu earned third in the 400 medley relay in 3:42.00.
The sophomore duo of Nick Smagula and Huffman finished fifth in the 2x500 free relay in 10:08.31, and the Colonials closed the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 free relay as Fitch, Drury, Balteanu and Koprivnjak touched the wall in 1:28.43.
Towson won the event with 118 points, followed by Atlantic 10 foe George Mason in second with 96 points and Georgetown in third with 60 points. American (40) finished behind GW in fifth, followed by Mary Washington (26) and Howard (7).
GW returns to the pool next weekend for a two-day quad-meet with American, Catholic and host Loyola.
