WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer team embarks on its final road trip of the season when it visits Atlantic 10 rivals St. Bonaventure and Duquesne. The Colonials will take on the Bonnies on Friday at 6 p.m. before heading to Pittsburgh to face the Dukes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Ten different Colonials have scored GW's 15 goals on the year. Curry is tied for eighth in the A-10 with three assists this season and van der Merwe ranks fourth with 4.42 saves per game.
With five games remaining in the regular season, the Colonials are tied with Saint Joseph's and conference newcomer Davidson for seventh place in the A-10 standings with four points.
St. Bonaventure (1-10-0, 0-3-0 A-10) has dropped five straight following a 4-0 loss at Buffalo on Tuesday. The Bonnies have been shut out in three straight games and have scored just one goal in their last five contests. Five different players have scored SBU's five goals on the season, including Eddie Keen, who also has an assist for a team-best three points. Jeremy Figler has played the majority of the minutes in goal, posting a 2.74 goals-against average and .611 save percentage as the Bonnies have been outscored 30-5 on the year and rank last in the A-10 in goals, assists, shots and GAA.
GW is 12-8-2 all-time against St. Bonaventure in a series that dates to 1987, but the teams have not met since 2011, a 3-0 win for the Colonials in D.C. Scott and classmate Farhan Khan are the only current Colonials who played in that match.
Duquesne (6-4-2, 1-1-0 A-10) is coming off a 1-0 loss at No. 20 Saint Louis last Friday. Despite the shutout, the Dukes boast the top scoring offense in the league and rank 17th in the nation, averaging 2.0 goals per game. Kadeem Pantophlet paces the Dukes with five goals and 13 points, ranking fifth and sixth in the A-10, respectively, but twelve different players have found the back of the net for Duquesne this season. Sam Frymier has seen most of the goalkeeping minutes, posting a 1.31 goals-against average and .763 save percentage. The Dukes will host VCU on Friday evening before welcoming the Colonials on Sunday.
The all-time series between GW and Duquesne, which dates to 1995, is tied 8-8-1. The teams have not met since a 1-0 Colonials' home victory in 2011 which clinched a share of the A-10 regular-season title for GW.
