GW Golf's Persons Finishes Top 10 at Terrapin Invitational

ROCKVILLE, Md. - GW golf senior Jack Persons recorded his second top-10 finish in the last three tournaments with a tie for ninth place at Maryland's Terrapin Invitational on Tuesday.
Persons, who tied for fifth at George Mason's Patriot Intercollegiate on Sept. 29, fired a three-round total of 4-over-par 220 (72-72-76) to finish in a four-way tie for ninth at the 75-player event held on Woodmont Country Club's par-72, 7,250-yard North Course on Monday and Tuesday.
The San Francisco, California native opened with consecutive rounds of even-par 72 for his fourth and fifth rounds of par-or-better so far this season and tied for fourth in the field with 10 birdies en route to his sixth collegiate top-10 performance.
GW finished in 11th place at 54-over 918 (304-300-314), with host Maryland totaling a 4-over 868 (290-284-294) for a five-shot victory over Loyola Maryland. George Mason's Kyle Hart and Elon's Jonathan Dilanni shared medalist honors at 2-under 214.
Freshman Zack Bailey tied for 46th at 16-over 232 (79-75-78), sophomore Lucas Farmer tied for 59th at 20-over 236 (76-81-79), sophomore Michael Heda tied for 61st at 21-over 237 (79-77-81) and rookie Vince Palazzolo tied for 65th at 22-over 238 (77-76-85).
Freshman Jack Porcelli matched Heda in a tie for 61st at 21-over 237 (79-76-82), a total which included a hole-in-one on the par-3, 204-yard sixth hole during Monday's fog-delayed second round.
GW now has two-and-a-half weeks to prepare for its final tournament of the 2014 fall season at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic at Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina from Nov. 2-4.
