GW Women's Soccer Hosts Massachusetts for Saturday Matinee

WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's soccer team returns home following a two-game Atlantic 10-opening road swing to welcome Massachusetts for its first conference match at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Colonials (7-3-1, 0-1-1 A-10) look to remain unbeaten at home with a 4-0-0 record entering Saturday's game. The squad is coming off a 0-1-1 weekend of conference-opening play in which it fell at two-time defending A-10 Champion La Salle, 3-0, before drawing at Fordham, 1-1, in double overtime to earn its first league point. Rookie Brittany Cooper tallied the Colonials' goal against the Rams on Sunday just before halftime after junior Kristi Abbate's shot bounced off the crossbar and senior Sydney Morris headed the ball to an open Cooper inside the box.
With a solid defensive presence through its first 11 matches, GW continues to lead the league in goals allowed (9) and goals-against average (0.80) and is tied for second with five shutouts on the season. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Miranda Horn ranks third in the conference with a 0.83 goals-against average and .843 save percentage.
The Colonials have outscored their opponents, 19-9, on the season and have limited them to a .072 shot percentage. Sophomore MacKenzie Cowley (5g, 1a) leads all GW scorers with 11 points, while redshirt junior Nicole Belfonti (3g, 1a) has recorded seven points and junior Kristi Abbate (2g, 2a) has tallied six points.
Massachusetts (3-5-4, 1-0-1 A-10) comes to GW following a 1-0-1 weekend of A-10 play at home. The squad first tied George Mason, 1-1, in double overtime on Friday before topping Saint Joseph's, 2-1, on Sunday. The Minutewomen have been outscored, 16-9, and have registered a .054 shot percentage. Jackie Bruno (4g) and Megan Burke (3g, 1a) pace the Massachusetts attack with eight and seven points, respectively. On the defensive end, goalkeepers Danielle Kriscenski and Cassidy Babin have shared time between the posts, with Kriscenski making 32 saves and recording a 1.49 goals-against average, while Babin has set aside 22 shots for a .880 save percentage.
