WASHINGTON - Returning to competition for the first time since the end of November, the George Washington men's and women's swimming teams open 2014 action at the two-day Rhode Island Invitational in Kingston, R.I., from Jan. 10-11.
Action inside the Rams' Tootell Aquatics Center is slated to begin on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday will commence at 10:30 a.m. The women's team will compete at the Rhode Island Invitational against conference foes La Salle, Massachusetts and host URI, and the men's squad will face La Salle and Massachusetts, in addition to the Rams' men's club swimming team.
GW hits the pool following its week-long winter training trip in Puerto Rico and returns to competition for the first time since wrapping the fall portion of its season at the Patriot Invitational at nearby George Mason. Fueled by four school record-setting performances and three first-place finishes by senior Caroline Myers, the Colonials' women's team finished second in the nine-team field at the Patriot Invitational. The men's team, paced by junior Garrett Cottingham with two individual victories, took home fourth place while setting several season-best times throughout the three-day meet.
As the Buff and Blue open the New Year at the Rhode Island Invitational, the Rams kick off 2014 one week earlier with a dual meet against conference opponent Richmond on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Fans can follow live results throughout the meet by downloading the Meet Mobile application to their smart phones and iPad devices.
