WASHINGTON - GW golf looks to carry momentum gained on the Outer Banks last week back to North Carolina for the 54-hole Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina on Greenville Country Club's Brook Valley Course on Oct. 28-29.
GW posted its lowest team total of the season in each of the final two rounds of the Old Dominion/OuterBanks Intercollegiate in Powells Point, N.C., last weekend. The Colonials broke 300 for the first time this fall with a 14-over-par 298 in the second round, then carded a 1-over 285 in the third round for their lowest team total since consecutive 284s in winning the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship.
GW will aim to continue its improved play on Greenville Country Club's Brook Valley Course, a transformed par-71, 6,653-yard layout. The Colonials will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday against a field consisting of Barton, Charlotte (individuals), Duke (individuals), Lipscomb, Navy, North Carolina Central, Presbyterian and Towson.
First-year Head Coach Chuck Scheinost will send reigning A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week Michael Heda, senior Graham Lawyer, junior Jack Persons, sophomore Michael Helton and freshman Lucas Farmer to compete as a team for GW, while senior Benton Kircher and sophomore Steve Piela will compete as individuals.
