FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Washington women's soccer team was edged, 1-0, by Atlantic 10 newcomer George Mason on a chilly Friday night at George Mason Stadium.
The Colonials (5-5-4, 2-3-1 A-10) wrapped road action and return home for their final three regular-season matches, which include a pair of league opponents and a non-conference contest against Delaware State.
George Mason (7-8-1, 4-2-0 A-10) took an early 1-0 lead off of a corner kick in the fourth minute for the only tally of the contest. Jasmin Cardoso's pass from the left corner found an open Liz Hodges, who headed the ball into the left side of the net.
The Colonials used good solid passing to switch fields and push the ball forward but they could not capitalize on the attack. Rookie MacKenzie Cowley fired the lone shot for GW at 34:31 but her attempt went wide.
Senior goalkeeper Nicole Ulrick made two saves for the Buff and Blue as the Patriots took 12 shots on the night.
GW welcomes VCU to the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus on Sunday for a 3 p.m. match.
