Women’s Soccer Captures 2-1 Win Over VMI

WASHINGTON – Two goals in the first 16 minutes of action propelled the George Washington women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over VMI on Thursday afternoon. The win moves GW to 3-2-2 on the season with one non-conference match remaining on the calendar.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 8th Minute: Junior Kate McGrath put the Revolutionaries on the scoreboard first, registering a header off an assist from Amelia Booth that snuck past the VMI keeper. The score is McGrath's first of the season.
- 16th Minute: The Revolutionaries doubled their advantage eight minutes later when Kalia Kau found herself in the right place at the right time. Booth fired an initial strike that was saved by the Keydet's goalkeeper. Kau collected the rebound and put the ball into the back of the net for her second score this season. Booth registered her second assist of the day, her first career multi-assist outing.
- 24th Minute: VMI answered back eight minutes later, trimming the GW lead in half off a goal from Madeline Karsonovich. Assisting on the play was Mackenzie Hobik. Despite three goals in the first half, stout defense prevailed as GW preserved its one-goal lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- GW fired off 25 shots in the match, the most in a contest for the Revolutionaries this season. The Buff & Blue put 12 on target, compared to just eight total shots and two on net for the Keydets.
- Kate Silverstein notched one save in the winning effort. She's played every minute in goal for GW in 2025 and improved her record to 3-2-2.
- The Buff & Blue finished with an 11-6 advantage in corner kicks.
- Kaitlyn White and Caroline Marini were both issued yellow cards in the match, their first of the season.
