GW Gymnastics Announces End of Year Awards

WASHINGTON - The George Washington gymnastics team honored eight student-athletes at its annual end-of-year banquet earlier this month.
Sophomore Betsy Zander took home top honors after receiving the Lindsey Ferris Award, also known as the Attitude is Everything Award The award is annually given to the GW gymnast who best exemplifies the team spirit and leadership qualities of the late gymnastics alumna. Zander was also awarded the Colonial Heart Award and earned the Starter Award for both balance beam and uneven bars.
Junior Stephanie Stoicovy was the recipient of four awards after her most successful season as a Colonial. She was awarded the Top Performer Award on both the floor exercise and all-around and was also named the Most Consistent Gymnast and the Starter Award on the vault. This season, Stoicovy was one of four gymnasts to qualify for the NCAA Fayetteville regional and was selected to the All-EAGL First Team for both floor exercise and all-around.
Sophomore Taylor Henderson was named the recipient of the Most Improved Award after posting career-high scores in three events.
The Colonials' captains for 2013 were also announced. Rising seniors Stephanie Stoicovy and Kayla Carto were elected to lead the team next season.
