GW Men's Swimming Falls at Towson, 162-117

TOWSON, Md. - The George Washington men's swimming team fell to Towson, 162-117, on Saturday afternoon at the Tigers' Burdick Pool.
Seniors Phillip Graeter and Luke Quimby and sophomore Garrett Cottingham led the Colonials on the day with first-place finishes in two or more events.
Graeter claimed top honors in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.68 seconds, while junior Jake Mortensen finished in second in 53.65. Senior Alex Etz took home fourth place in 55.07 seconds. Mortensen also earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.52, an event won by Graeter as he clocked in at 1:54.72. The Schwerin, Germany native then won his third and final event in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:08.37.
Cottingham won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.81 seconds and classmate Adam Rabe came in third in 1:00.54. Cottingham also won the 200-yard breaststroke in convincing fashion with a time of 2:10.77. Rabe clocked in at 2:15.58 for a fourth-place finish.
Quimby took home first in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 21.26 seconds. He then won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.11 seconds. Senior Niklas Glenesk earned third place in the 100 free in 47.86.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team, made up of Mortensen, Nelson, Glenesk and Quimby earned a neck-and-neck first-place finish with a time of 3:11.64, .02 seconds ahead of Towson's second-place team.
The 200-yard medley relay of Mortensen, Rabe, freshman Oliver Keegan and Quimby finished second with a time of 1:36.75, less than one second behind Towson. Keegan finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:54.46 and took home second in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.42 seconds.
Sharples and Glenesk took home fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle. Sparles touched the wall in 1:44.86 followed by Glenesk in 1:44.92 as 1.05 seconds separated first through fifth places.
The Colonials return to action on Thursday, November 15 for the three-day Patriot Invitational at nearby George Mason.
