WASHINGTON, DC-- The George Washington softball team was visited by USA Softball Olympian Natasha Watley (UCLA, '03) on Thursday at Mount Vernon Field. Watley is the second Olympian to visit GW in as many seasons.
"It was a highlight to my senior season," said shortstop Katie Terrazas. "It was very cool. "She is relatable and very down to earth."
A California native, Terrazas got a chance to play catch with Watley before she took some grounders.
"I have watched her play since she played with UCLA in college. It's always very cool to get to meet someone you have looked up to since childhood."
Freshman pitcher Courtney Martin also got the chance to talk to Watley. "I remember getting to watch her era of softball Olympians on TV. She has really made a positive impact on the sport and has changed the face of softball."
Watley was in town for a photo shoot for her sponsor Mizuno and used GW's Mount Vernon Field as a backdrop.
GW returns to action at Mount Vernon Field this weekend when they take on the Army Black Knights for a four-game series. Doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday will start at 12:00 pm, with game two beginning approximately at 2:00 pm.
