Delima Wins Floor Exercise On Senior Night

WASHINGTON, DC- Senior Leslie Delima tied her career-high score with a 9.875 to win the floor exercise on Senior Night at Smith Center on Friday evening. GW fell to No. 30 Maryland 195.750-193.975.
Delima, performing in her final regular season home meet of her incredible career, thrilled the Senior Night crowd with a strong performance on the floor exercise to tie her personal best score of 9.875. Delima finished fourth in the all-around (38.800) with scores of 9.625 on balance beam, 9.575 on the uneven bars and 9.725 on the vault.
Freshman Betsy Zander led the Colonials by finishing in third place in the all-around with a season-high score of 38.875. She also set season-high scores on the vault (9.750) and the floor exercise (9.775) while adding a 9.700 on the uneven bars and a 9.650 on the balance beam.
Freshman Kiera Kenney also set season-high scores in two events. She tied her season-high with a second-place finish on the uneven bars (9.775, T-2nd) while setting a new high mark on the vault (9.625).
Two Colonials' set career-high marks on the balance beam as redshirt sophomore Monique Blount took fourth place (9.775) and sophomore Kayla Carto followed in fifth place (9.725).
Junior Amanda Murphy tied for fourth-place with a 9.800 on the vault.
The Colonials will return to action this Sunday when they travel to College Park, MD to meet with the Terrapins again, this time in a quad-meet with Kentucky and North Carolina.
The George Washington University will host the 2011 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships on Saturday, March 19th at 2:00 pm at the fully renovated Charles E. Smith Center.
The Colonials will welcome Maryland, New Hampshire, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and West Virginia for an afternoon of championship caliber routines.
