Volleyball Handles Howard, 3-0

WASHINGTON, DC -- The GW Volleyball team had little trouble in getting past Howard, 3-0, at HU's Burr Gym Friday. The Colonials won by the scores, 25-16, 25-21, 25-13 in just 79 minutes. GW held Howard to a team attack percentage of just .125 (36-24-96) while GW combined to hit a season-high .397 (40-11-73) for the match.
Senior co-captain Katie Zulandt and junior Alex Coward each had errorless hitting efforts against the Bison. Coward hit her career-high .909 on 10 kills in 11 swings without an attack error while Zulandt hit .727 (8-0-11) with three blocks and an ace. Freshman Rachael Goss hit .375 on eight kills in 16 attempts. Coward added two blocks and an ace.
MacKenzie Knox hit .500 (5-1-8) while setters Katie Crosby and Hayley Woodford shared the setting duties and combined on 23 of GW's 40 kills. Crosby and sophomore libero Candace Silva-Martin each led the Colonials with six digs.
Howard (3-13) was led by Tosin Elebute's match-high 21 kills and five digs while hitting .341. Gazelle d'Artois added six kills and four digs.
GW (10-6, 0-0 A-10) next hosts Charlotte (9-5, 0-0 A-10) in the A-10 opener Saturday at 7 p.m. at Charles E. Smith Center.
