CAMBRIDGE, MD -- GW junior Martin Liu turned in a 10-over-par 223 (72-77) to tie for 35th place in the 79-player field at the Maryland Intercollegiate played Saturday and Sunday in Cambridge, MD. Liu carded 12 birdies for the tournament to lead the Colonials.
As a team, GW placed 14th in the 15-team field at the 6,801-yard, par 71 River Marsh Golf Course.
The Colonials' 54-hole total 907 (299-322-286) was 63 strokes off the lead set by tournament champion Penn State's eight-under-par 844. The Colonials finished 17 strokes ahead of last-place Francis Marion (924).
GW senior Brendan Barrack carded a 75-81-70 (226) to tie teammate Brandon Rukin (78-78-70--226) for 52nd place. GW junior Andres Pumariega, playing in his first event for the Colonials after transferring from Mercer University, fired a 75-83-75--233, good for 71st place. Colonials freshman Graham Lawyer tied for 78th with a 238 (78-82-78).
Runner-up UNC Wilmington turned in an even-par 852 for the event, eight strokes back of the Nittany Lions. Penn State's Michael Miller won medalist honors with a 6-under 207 after a second-round 68 (70-68-69) to edge Penn's Max Marsico (68-70-70--208) by a stroke.
The Colonials next compete in the Richmond Intercollegiate, Oct. 11-12, at Independence Golf Course near Richmond, VA.
