WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington's Cole Turner has been named to the Atlantic 10 Golf Academic All-Conference team in voting conducted among the Conference's Sports Information Directors, the Conference office announced Monday. To be eligible for Academic All-Conference consideration, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average for their collegiate career and be a starter or important reserve.
The Colonials' co-captain competed in 12 tournaments during the 2009-10 season, led team in scoring (75.0) among players with at least 11 rounds played, and led the squad with 29 rounds played. He also owns the team's lowest 36-hole score (141) this season. He placed sixth (of 60) at the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship with a seven-over-par 220.
Turner tied the school record for low single-round score last October when he shot a 66 in the ODU Seascape tournament at Kitty Hawk, NC. He also carded the second-lowest round this season, a 67, in the season-opener at Turning Stone, the course rated most difficult in the state of New York.
His head-to-head W-L record is 628-176 (.781) this season including a 3rd-place finish at Old Dominion's Seascape Tournament. He placed among the top 10 in five tournaments and had nine top-20 finishes.
The 2009-10 golf team MVP, Turner maintains a 3.87 grade-point average as an exercise science/pre-med major. He has been a member of George Washington's Athletic Dept. Dean's List all seven semesters. He will graduate summa cum laude this month and is a two-year representative on GW's Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
Turner is joined on the A-10 men's golf Academic All-Conference team by Charlotte's Corey Nagy; Robert Lindstrom of Richmond; Charlotte's Will Golden and Dayton's Chris Woeste.
