FAIRFAX, VA-- The George Washington softball team fell to George Mason on Wednesday, 9-0 in six innings, in the Colonials last non-conference game of the 2010 season.
Colonials (5-36) starter Elaine Nescio, kept the Patriots (17-22) off the board until the third inning when she gave up a two-run homerun. Nescio bounced back to keep Mason scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings.
Amanda Holst got a base hit in the third inning, while Tara Fogarty got on base safely in the forth with a base hit to left center, for GW's only hits of the game. Both hits came off of Mason's Amanda Buffington in her two innings of work. GW was also able to draw three walks in the game.
The Patriots' big inning came in the sixth, putting up seven runs on Nescio and relief pitcher Ali Pardo. Mason connected a lead off double with a single and a walk on Nescio to load the bases. Pardo hit the first batter she faced and walked the second to force in two runs, before Nescio re-entered the game.
Mason ended the game with a bases clearing double, for the 9-0 victory over GW.
The Colonials will host Charlotte for a two-day, two-game series this weekend, beginning on Friday, April 30 at Mount Vernon Field at 3:00 p.m. Game two will start at noon on Saturday, May 1. Saturday will also be the Strike Out for the Cure game as part of the GW Thinks Pink initiatives to help raise awareness and funds for the breast cancer research.
