Colonials Swept by Owls in A-10 Double Header

AMBLER, PA-- GW softball was held to three hits against Temple on Sunday in an Atlantic 10 double header. The Owls (16-25, 5-7) took game one, 10-0, in five innings and game two, 4-0, over the Colonials (5-35, 2-14).
In game one, the Colonials got two runners on in the first inning when Katie Terrazas singled to right center and Jordyn O'Donnell got hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. Terrazas was forced at third for the last out of the inning.
The Owls got on the board in the second inning, scoring one run on two hits and two errors and stranded three runners.
Amanda Holst got a two out single in the third, but was caught stealing second to end the inning.
Temple drew back-to-back walks in the bottom of the third off of GW starter Kara Clauss, scoring one run off a single from the third batter of the inning. Clauss allowed a three-run home run, before getting the next three batters out to end the inning.
The Owls added five more runs in the fourth inning to win 10-0, on three hits, including a two-RBI double, and one error.
GW game two starting pitcher, Elaine Nescio tossed three scoreless innings before Temple put up a four runs in the fourth inning. Nescio allowed a solo home run to left center with one out, and gave up back-to-back singles before allowing a three-run homerun. Ali Pardo came in the game in relief with a runner at first, retiring the next two batter to end the inning.
Holst got her second hit of the day leading off the seventh inning but she was forced out at second as Jordyn O'Donnell got on base on a fielders choice. O'Donnell was left stranded to end the inning.
The Colonials will take on area rival George Mason, Wed. April 28 at 5:00 p.m. in Fairfax, VA. GW will host Charlotte for a two-day, two-game series this weekend. Game one will be on Friday, April 30 at Mount Vernon Field at 3:00 p.m. with game two starting at noon on Saturday May 1.
