Golf Ties for Third at Caves Valley Spring Intercollegiate

OWINGS MILLS, MD -- George Washington's Martin Liu carded a 10-over-par 152 in extremely windy conditions at the 36-hole Caves Valley Spring Intercollegiate men's golf tournament near Baltimore Saturday and Sunday.
Liu tied for fourth place in the 45-player field. His effort helped propel the Colonials to a tie for third place in the nine-team field. GW tied Harvard, each with 622, five strokes behind runner-up Princeton. Penn won tournament with a 612 (313-299). GW and Temple joined six Ivy League schools: Brown, Cornell, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and host Yale, which also entered its B Team.
The Colonials shot 313-309 (622) at the challenging par-71, 7,165-yard Caves Valley Golf Course. GW senior Cole Turner fired a two-round 157 (82-75) while junior Brendan Barrack was one stroke behind Turner with a 158 (79-80).
Meanwhile in Annapolis, MD, the Colonials sent a four-man `B Team' to the Navy Spring Invitational where they placed 19th in the 21-team field with a team total of 657 (326-331), well off the pace set by the host U.S. Naval Academy (592--286-306).
Colonials senior Sebastian Palomares was the low Colonial at Navy with a 15-over 157 (77-81) to tie for 47th place in the 104-player field. The tournament was held at the par-71, 6,528-yard U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course.
The Colonials' next competition will be at Rutherford Intercollegiate, hosted by Penn State, on April 24-25 at State College, PA. The two-day 54-hole championship takes place at PSU's par-71, 7,208-yard Blue Course.
