WASHINGTON -- GW softball team dropped their third Atlantic 10 game to the Rhode Island Rams Saturday afternoon, 7-3.
The Rams got on the board first when Melissa Wilson doubled home two runs in the first inning. Rhode Island put a third run up in the second inning when Nicole Massoni forced home a run when she reached base on an error by Colonials third baseman Katie Terrazas.
Freshman Autumn Taylor got the Colonials on the board in the second inning with a leadoff homerun to left field.
GW built some momentum in the third inning when Julie Orlandi led off the inning with a sharp line drive double down the right field line. Amanda Holst pushed Orlandi to third with a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Lauren Wilson homered to right center to tie the game at 3-3.
Elaine Nescio made her collegiate debut in relief for Colonials starter Heidi Penna. Penna pitched one and a third of an inning, allowing three runs, striking out two and walking two. Nescio gave up a three-run homerun in the fourth to take the loss. She also struck out four, walked one and hit one batter in two innings of work.
Kara Clauss came in to pitch three and two-thirds innings to close out the game. She allowed one run on four hits.
