Post-Game Quotes
GW Coach Mike Bozeman
Opening statement
"You absolutely can't start the game the way we did. Scoring 15 points for the half - it doesn't matter what you do Xs and Os-wise. We were getting looks that we wanted, we just weren't finishing. Then to shoot 17 percent in the first half and give up all those offensive rebounds - that's the recipe for failure. We were fighting uphill all game; the girls never gave up. We fought tooth and nail to the end, and lost by seven. It's tough to be right there, so close and so far. We'll go back to the gym tomorrow and try to correct the mistakes we made today."
Do you feel like you're making progress toward playing a good 40 minutes?
"In the beginning, we'd play well in the first half and fizzle in the second half. Now, we're outscoring teams in the second half. We've corrected one end of the problem, now we have to correct the other end. We have to get my starting five functioning at the same level at the same time."
Was Auburn's height the cause of the rebounding disparity?
"It's more their style of play. They're out of the SEC, which has got that rough-and-tumble rebounding style. But we prepared for it at practice. Again, we have to work on our execution. You can't dig yourself into that kind of hole against an SEC team."
Was this game more encouraging that you hung with an SEC team, or discouraging that you came so close and lost?
"It's discouraging that it was right there. There were some good things about tonight - we shot 50 percent in the second half. We did fight back; there was no quit out there. I'm going to try everything I can to correct these problems."
Junior guard Tiana Myers
It seemed like you had trouble finding good shots tonight. What was the problem offensively?
"We didn't have high energy in the beginning, and our shots were rushed. We didn't let the game come to us. It was like we were in a hurry. Though we started making shots, it was hard to shoot our way out of a 10-point deficit."
Where do you see the team right now as you go into a stretch of non-conference road games?
"As Coach says, we can't harp on tonight's game. I think we're still in a good spot because we're learning, and we just have to get over the hump and put two good halves together."
