WASHINGTON, DC - After a nine-day layoff for the Thanksgiving holiday, the George Washington women's basketball team seeks its third straight victory Tuesday night when it hosts Ohio University at Charles E. Smith Center. The Colonials look to avenge a 70-58 loss to the Bobcats in Athens, OH, last November.

Powered by sophomore Danni Jackson's game-high 15 points and redshirt senior Ivy Abiona's 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, GW (2-2) used a mid-game run to take the lead and pull away from North Texas, 62-53, at Smith Center Nov. 21. The Colonials bridged the first and second halves with an 11-0 run to turn a five-point deficit into a 30-24 lead. Sophomore Megan Nipe added a career-high 10 rebounds to help GW outrebound UNT, 51-38, which led to an 18-7 advantage in second-chance points and 32-14 edge in points in the paint.
Despite a then career-high 20 points from Tiana Myers, GW dropped its first game of the 2009-10 season at Ohio, 70-58, last Nov. 22. The Colonials, who trailed by as much as 16 points in the second half, had a chance to make it a one-possession game with less than three minutes to play, but failed to convert on consecutive fast-break opportunities and the Bobcats clinched the win with free throws. Ohio finished 25-of-35 at the foul line and committed just seven fouls, while GW was whistled for 21 fouls and shot 7-of-9 at the stripe.
GW had its streak of 150 games with at least one made 3-point field goal snapped against North Texas last Sunday. The Colonials were 0-for-7 from behind the arc against the Mean Green, marking the first time they failed to connect from deep since an 88-37 victory over Yale on Dec. 20, 2005.
The Colonials have been solid defensively in their two victories this season, limiting opponents to 26.9 percent shooting (32-119) overall and 17.4 percent shooting from three-point range (8-46).
Ohio (2-2) plays its third of four consecutive road games Tuesday at GW having already split its first two games during the trip.
The Bobcats are coming off a tough 60-52 loss at Youngstown State Saturday, a game in which they led the Penguins by 18 points in the first half. Ohio had a 34-16 lead with 1:27 left in the opening period, but surrendered 41 points in the second half, including 11 in the final two minutes.
Ohio, which has started the same five players through each of its first four games, is paced in scoring and rebounding by 5-foot-9 redshirt junior guard Tenishia Benson, who averages 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 51.2 percent from the field. Benson did not play in last year's meeting as she missed the season due to NCAA transfer rules after playing her first two seasons at Cincinnati.
5-foot-7 sophomore guard Ashley Fowler is second on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game. 38 of her 58 field goal attempts and eight of her 13 field goals made have come from behind the three-point arc.
Coming off an 8-22 season in 2009-10, Ohio was picked to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference East Division preseason poll.
