Jones Promoted to Men's Soccer Assistant Coach

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's soccer head coach George Lidster has announced that Craig Jones, four-year letterwinner for the Colonials from 1995-98 and volunteer assistant coach the past seven seasons, has been promoted to the team's top assistant position.
"Craig is a highly qualified, innovative coach with strong ties to the local soccer community," said Lidster. "His experience and knowledge of the game will add another dimension to our program."
In addition to Jones' current duties in training and game management, he will assist Lidster with recruiting, scheduling and goalkeeper workouts.
Jones was named 2008 Virginia Youth Soccer Association Boys Competitive Coach of the Year after leading his Virginia 1992 team to the title game of that year's ODP National Championship.
Along with his work at GW and VYSA, Jones also serves as the Boys Development Academy Director for the DC Stoddert Soccer Club in Washington, DC. His responsibilities include coordinating training services and designing age appropriate curriculums for year-round soccer training programs.
Jones holds a USSF `A' Coaching License and is a Virginia State Education Instructor teaching license courses to soccer coaches in Virginia and Washington, DC. He has served as the director of numerous college and residential summer soccer programs in both the U.S. and Europe and is the founder of DC Soccer School offering soccer services to youth players in the metropolitan area. Jones earned a UEFA License in 1998 and a NSCAA National Diploma in 2003.
Jones played and captained the Wales National Youth Team prior to his four-year career at GW. He started all but one of his 63 matches played during his four seasons, totaling 28 points on 12 goals and four assists. Following his collegiate career, Jones competed semi-professionally in England and Wales before returning stateside to pursue his coaching licenses.
The Wales native graduated with a bachelor's degree in exercise science from the University in 1999 and currently resides in Washington, DC.
