Cantrell Named Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Week

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington Colonials junior pitcher Eric Cantrell was named the Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Week after he put on a masterful performance in the Bourne Braves' first win of the year, a 5-1 victory over Wareham, recording eight shutout innings and improving to 1-0 on the season. The overpowered Gatemen mustered only two hits and no walks, while striking out 12 times versus the 6-foot-4 righty.
Cantrell is entering his junior year at George Washington in the fall. This past season, he ranked second on the team in wins (5), innings pitched (72.2), strikeouts (60), and ERA (4.40). Cantrell also was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2008. That season, he became of part of history when he threw the first competitive pitch at the new Nationals Park in Washington, DC on March 22 in a 9-4 victory over Saint Joseph's.
