
Softball Falls to UMass in Extras, 3-2

AMHEARST, MA - George Washington softball (12-26, 3-10 A-10) was one out away from pushing the game to the ninth inning against No. 22/17 Massachusetts (26-6, 9-0), before UMass' Sam Salato hit her second home run of the game to centerfield for the win.
Freshman Ali Waterman tied the game in the fifth inning with a two-run home run. Junior Amanda Gabriel bunted to get on base and the very next pitch Waterman sent it over the rightfield wall for her first career home run.
Gabriel (7-14) pitched her sixteenth complete game, tossing seven and two-thirds innings in the loss. She gave up six hits, three earned runs, walked one and struck out six.
The Colonials will face the Minutewomen for game two of the series Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the UMass Softball Complex in Amhearst, MA.
