
Softball Stuns Pittsburgh in Colonial Classic, 2-1

WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers, 2-1, Sunday in game one of the second day of the 2009 Colonial Classic.
Krissy Mackiewicz started off the game getting on by an error by the Pitt shortstop. Carrie Higdon sacrifice bunted Mackiewicz to second, then reached third on a Katie Terrazas single up the middle. As Terrazas stole second, Mackiewicz stole home to post the first GW run on the board. Terrazas scored on a leftfielder error after Lauren Wilson singled to left for the eventual game-winning run.
Amanda Gabriel got the win over Pitt, improving to 2-3 on the season. In seven innings of work, she allowed only five hits, one walk and struck out 10. Through two games of the Colonial Classic, Gabriel sat down 23 batters that she faced.
Pitt scored their only run in the top of the third inning when the lead off batter walked to get on base, was sacrifice bunted to second to score eventually on a GW error.
Pitt faced Army in the second game of the day and defeated the Black Knights 9-1 in five innings to post a 3-1 record over the weekend.
