COLUMBUS, OH - The George Washington women's gymnastics team began their busy stretch of the season Saturday night, in which they will have three meets in less than a week. They lost the opener of this stretch though 196.475-192.775 to the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, OH though and will look to rebound next week.
Freshman Amanda Murphy had a big night in the all-around, scoring a 39.00 and didn't score worse than a 9.625 in any of her events. Murphy score 9.825 on vault, which was good for fourth best in the meet and also recorded a 9.800 on floor. Vault was the top event for the Colonials as they scored a 48.800 and also got a 9.825 from senior Kristen Simpson and a 9.800 by senior Erin Quigg.
Sophomore Leslie Delima also competed in the all-around and scored a 38.500, with her best score being 9.825 on her floor routine. Simpson finished with the second-best score in the floor, when she recorded a 9.875 and junior Megan Quinn also chipped in with a 9.725.
On bars the Colonials were led by Bree Plotsker, who scored a 9.725 and junior Christa Devine also recorded a 9.700 in the event. Overall the Colonials performed strong in three of the four events, but struggled on beam, which was their undoing tonight in Columbus.
The team will return home though for "Senior Night" against Towson on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. It will be the final home meet for the team in 2009 and will also be the final home meet for Gillian Coleman, Kristen Simpson, Bree Plotsker and Erin Quigg.
