
Two Homeruns Help Softball Defeat Charlotte, 4-3

CHARLOTTE, NC - The George Washington University softball team defeated Charlotte Saturday, 4-3, for their first Atlantic 10 win of the season.
The Colonials (8-13, 1-1 A-10) got the bats swinging early against the 49ers (14-6, 1-1), as freshman Krissy Mackiewicz hit her first GW-career homerun to left field to lead off the game. Junior Katie Terrazas followed with a single and advanced to second on a base on balls by senior Tori Sensi. Freshman Kara Clauss doubled in Terrazas while Sensi advanced to third.
In the fifth, senior Carrie Higdon walked to get on base and stole her team-leading seventh base of the season. Katie Terrazas homered to left, her first of the season and second of her career, batting in Higdon.
Kara Clauss started the game for GW, going three innings, allowing four hits and one unearned run. Junior Amanda Gabriel (4-6) pitched four innings in relief to get the win. Gabriel allowed six hits, two earned runs and struck out two.
The Colonials go on the road to Harrisonburg, VA, on Mar. 25 to face James Madison in a double header starting at 2:00 p.m. GW picks up A-10 play again on Mar. 29 at Fordham, with a double header in Bronx, NY, starting at noon.
