George Washington Holds Off Towson On Senior Night

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington Women's gymnastics team held off Towson on Wednesday night by the score of 194.700-192.750, which was a season-best performance for the squad. The team also honored the four graduating seniors in a post-meet ceremony after their final performance at the Smith Center.
On a night that was honoring the seniors, freshman Amanda Murphy stepped up with a big performance that included a 38.850 all-around score, which was tops for the meet. It included a 9.850 on floor exercise and a 9.800 on vault. Murphy has competed all-season in the all-around during her rookie season and has been vital to the Colonials success.
Senior Kristen Simpson continued to excel on vault and floor, scoring a 9.875 on vault and a 9.850 on floor. Her floor routine was tops in the meet, tying Murphy and her vault score was tops alone for the entire meet.
Redshirt senior Gillian Coleman came through with a career-high 9.775 on bars, which helped the Colonials record a season-high 48.675 in the event. This was also keyed by a 9.775 by juniors Megan Quinn and Christa Devine, as well as a 9.750 by senior Bree Plotsker. The strong bar score in the second rotation helped the Colonials pull out to a 1.2 point lead that they never surrendered the whole meet.
Sophomore Leslie Delima also competed in the all-around and scored a 38.375 on the evening. Her top score was a 9.800 on floor and also put up a 9.725 score on the vault rotation.
Senior Erin Quigg also continued her steady scores on vault as she put up another 9.825 and helped the Colonials to a 48.775 score in the event. George Washington's team score of 194.700 was a season-best by eight tenth's and the night was filled with lots of accomplishments.
After the meet the Colonial juniors and sophomores honored seniors gymnasts Gillian Coleman, Kristen Simpson, Bree Plotsker and Erin Quigg as well as four-year student manager Renee Gackenheimer. The team will now travel down to Raleigh, NC for a Friday meet on the campus of NC State. First rotation is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
