Softball Falls to Virginia in Game 1, 8-2

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The George Washington University softball team fell to the University of Virginia Cavilers in game one of a double header, 8-2, Tuesday. The Colonials fell to 5-8 on the season.
The Cavilers took the lead in the second inning with a home run but GW answered in the top of the third pushing Amanda Holst around the base paths, after she walked to get on, by two perfectly executed sacrifice bunts by Krissy Mackiewicz and Carrie Higdon. Holst scored on a Katie Terrazas single up the middle.
Virginia scored two in the fourth and five in the fifth to push the score to 8-1.
In the top of the sixth, Elisa Van Kirk led off the inning with a home run to left center, her first of the season and her eight of her GW career.
Kara Clauss threw six innings for the Colonials allowing 11 hits, eight runs, five earned runs, walking two and striking out four.
