Women's Gymnastics Shines in Win Against Tribe

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington Women's Gymnastics team returned to the Smith Center on Sunday afternoon and put up a season high 193.250 in a victory over William & Mary. The Colonials had season-high in two events and won the meet by nearly three whole points.
The afternoon started with a stellar vault rotation that saw the Colonials score a season-high 48.800 in the event. Senior Kristen Simpson won the event with a 9.900 and freshman Amanda Murphy recorded a 9.850, which was a career-high by almost two tenths of a point. George Washington recorded the top five scores in the competition as junior Erin Quigg scored a 9.725 and sophomore Leslie Delima followed with a 9.675.
George Washington's next two rotations weren't their strongest of the season, but still had some standout performances.Junior Christa Devine scored a 9.750 on bars and junior Megan Quinn was right behind with a 9.700, which were the two scores were the top two in the competition. Murphy finished third overall in the beam competition with a score of 9.675. After the first two rotations the Colonials held a 96.975-94.325 lead over the Tribe.
Murphy led the Colonials on bars with a 9.675, but the highlight of the afternoon was a stellar floor session which saw the Colonials score a 48.975. The score was the highest of the entire season in any single rotation and saw strong scores from every competitor. Simpson scored her second 9.900 of the day and Delima scored a 9.875 in the event. Murphy put forth a 9.775 routine Quinn and Coleman were right behind her with 9.725 and 9.700 scores respectively. George Washington also dominated the floor event, putting up five of the top six overall scores in the meet.
The Tribe was led by Kristin Milardo, who finished with a 38.175 team score. The Tribe as a team scored 190.400 on the afternoon. Dina McNaughton had their top routine with a 9.850 score on the floor exercise.
George Washington now has six days until they head to New Hampshire to take on the Wildcats in Durham, NH. New Hampshire comes into the meet with a strong 11-3 record and has an RQS score of 193.030. The Colonials face a challenging portion of their schedule in which three of their final four meets are on the road. The final home meet is Wednesday, March 11 when the Colonials host Towson.
