Women's Soccer Announces 2009 Recruiting Class

WASHINGTON, DC --The George Washington University women's soccer head coach Tanya Vogel and associate head coach Neel Bhattacharjee have announced a seven-member 2009 recruiting class, including players from all over the country with international playing experience.
Joining the Colonials in 2009 are defenders Molly Bruh (East Willison, NY/Wheatley), Samie Cloutier (Pleasanton, CA/Foothill), Dani Schrakamp (Danville, CA/Monte Vista,), forwards Adriana Moya (Lynnwood, WA/Lynnwood) and Kayley Sullivan (Alexandria, VA/Thomas Jefferson) and midfielders/defenders Alycia Lee (Vienna, VA/Oakton) and Clare Roche (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North).
"Today is a great day for our program," Vogel said. "We pride ourselves on our recruiting process and our current student-athletes and recent graduates have helped assist Neel and I in bringing in such a high caliber of student-athlete to GW."
"Each member of the 2009 class will contribute immediately as we continue to press toward our goal of returning to the Atlantic 10 Championship," Vogel said. Women's soccer finished the 2008 season 8-11, 4-7 in Atlantic 10 play, just missing post season play by five points.
Molly Bruh
Position: Defender
Hometown: East Willison, NY
High School: Wheatley
Club Team: Albertson Fury
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "Molly has been our first verbal commitment back in late 2007 and we have been grinning ever since. Her ability to organize defensively will help us fill big shoes by another New Yorker Christy Mazzola. She possesses the ability to build out of the back and serve long ball forward. Athletically, she's perfect for the Division I game."
Bruh on George Washington: "I chose GW because it is truly the perfect fit. I wanted a city school, great academics, and dedicated athletic program. All in all, I knew this school is where I belonged after my first visit."
Bruh's Resume: Bruh served as the captain for the Fury and helped lead the team to four State Cup Championships and one Regional Final. She was named as one of TopDrawerSoccer's top 100 recruits for 2008. Bruh also attended adidas ESP Camp and was part of the Region I ODP team, attending events in both Boca Raton, Fl and Costa Rica.
Samie Cloutier
Position: Defender
Hometown: Pleasanton, CA
High School: Foothill
Club Team: Pleasanton Rage
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "Samie brings outstanding experience, playing with the U15 National Team and competing in one of the most competitive regions in the country. She is athletic, vocal, and possesses the ability to mark the best forward that GW will face."
Cloutier on George Washington: "I love the atmosphere at GW. It feels like a home away from home."
Cloutier's Resume: Cloutier played for U14 andU15 National teams and was an invitee to the Nike Premier 50 Camp. For Pleasanton, she served as team captain and helped her club to the Region IV Championships in 2007, ranked 3rd nationally. Cloutier was named as a TopDrawerSoccer top 200 Recruit. This past winter, the Foothill team was ranked No. 1 in the ESPN Fab 50 poll.
Alycia Lee
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Hometown: Vienna, VA
High School: Oakton
Club Team: FC Virginia Netforce
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "We love Alycia's energy as a flank player and forward. She is hard-working, technical and willing to do the grunt work of an outside mid. She has trained under one of the best tacticians in our region and we look for Alycia to have a seamless transition into the Division I college play."
Lee on George Washington: "The blend of a strong academic standard and opportunities for success in the marjor and professional field of personal interest, along with the program's coaches, teammates and training environment drew to The George Washington University and the women's soccer program."
Lee's Resume: Lee helped the Netforce to compete in the State Cup Championships for the past three years, taking home the State Cup in 2006 and 2007. She was also a member of the Virginia ODP teams from 2005 through 2007.
Adriana Moya
Position: Forward
Hometown: Lynnwood, WA
High School: Lynnwood
Club Team: Crossfire Premier
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "It took about two seconds at the first club match I watched for me to know that Adriana would add something special to our program. She is athletic, relentless and extremely competitive as a frontrunner. She possesses all to the tools to be a top goal-scorer at this level."
Moya on George Washington: "I chose to attend GW based on its academic reputation, the family environment I felt from the coaches and team and the high level of expectation for success. Also, the opportunities and experiences that Washington, DC offers are one-of-a-kind. I am so honored and excited to be a part of the women's soccer program at such a prestigious university."
Moya's Resume: Moya is a current member of the Chilean U20 National team. With the Crossfire, she helped her team to the 2007 Region IV quarterfinals after winning their fourth-straight State Cup. At Lynnwood, she was twice voted MVP of her team.
Clare Roche
Position: Midfielder/Defender
Hometown: Newton, PA
High School: Council Rock North
Club Team: FC Bucks
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "Clare comes from one of the best club teams in the country where she plays as both a flank midfielder and defender. She is technically very strong and consistent. She also has great athleticism and energy and will be able to run all day."
Roche on George Washington: "From my first visit, I loved the academics, location and team. GW is everything I wanted and more from a top university."
Roche's Resume: This past summer Roche's FC Bucks beat fellow incoming freshman, Molly Bruh's club team in the Region I Championships and went on to finish No. 3 Nationally. The Buck's are currently the four-time defending EPA State Cup Champions. She was also a member of the EPA ODP state teams in 2005 and 2007. Roche was the team captain for Council Rock North and named to the Suburban One All-League second team in 2007 and 2008 and to the Bucks County Courier Times second team in her sophomore season. Roche and her father climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro on a UNICEF fundraising expedtion.
Dani Schrakamp
Position: Defender
Hometown: Danville, CA
High School: Monte Vista
Club Team: Mustang Spririt SC
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "Dani is a fantastic defender. She is athletic and technically very strong, which will help her make the transition to the faster Division I game. We are happy to have another player with Dani's size and athleticism."
Schrakamp on George Washington: "I fell in love with everything about the school: the people, the city, the environment, the team and most importantly, the academics. GW is exactly what I was looking for in a college. I look forward to the learning opportunities that I will experience in the Elliot School and to be a part of the historic activities currently taking place in our nation's capital."
Schrakamp's Resume: Scharkamp has been the team captain of the Mustang Spirit since 2003, leading her team to the Northern California State Cup Championships in 2003-2007 and a 2007 Region IV semifinal appearance. Schrakamp was a member of the Cal North ODP team in 2007-2008 before tearing her ACL.
Kayley Sullivan
Position: Forward
Hometown: Alexandria, VA
High School: Thomas Jefferson
Club Team: Bethesda Blast
Coach Vogel's Scouting Report: "This kid is suited perfectly for the college game. She is big, strong, fast and has a great nose for the ball. Neel and I will love to challenge Kayley to reach the greatest heights while here at GW. She is committed and driven to succeed. Match that with her natural abilities and she will be a tremendous asset for us up top."
Sullivan on George Washington: "I knew I wanted my hard work in high school on and off the field to pay off when choosing a college. I picked GW because I know I will be able to continue to push myself academically while having a fantastic soccer experience. At GW, I feel excited but also like I am right at home. I am proud of my decision and I can't wait for next year!"
Sullivan's Resume: At Thomas Jefferson High, Sullivan was named Rookie of the Year in 2006, was an all-district defender in 2008, and named all-district second team in 2006 and 2007. She was also awarded in 2008 and was named best offensive player in 2007. Sullivan also received multiple awards for her speed on the track for Thomas Jefferson.
