TOWSON, MD -- GW sophomore Tony Taylor hit a pull-up jumper with 27 seconds left to lift George Washington past Towson, 73-69, Saturday afternoon at the Towson Center. Taylor's shot from the top of the key broke a 69-69 tie and gave the Colonials their seventh win of the season in the first of a stretch of four straight road games. Towson's Josh Thornton tied it at 69 on a 3-pointer with 1:02 left to set the stage for Taylor's heroics. After Taylor's go-ahead basket, Towson used its final timeout. With nine seconds showing, Thornton heaved an off-balance three-pointer to try to win the game that missed the mark. Travis King gathered the rebound and passed ahead to Taylor who threw a long outlet pass to a streaking Aaron Ware who layed it in for the final margin.
GW (7-2) got a team-high 13 points from senior Damian Hollis and 12 from freshman Tim Johnson to remain perfect (3-0) on the road this season.
Towson (2-5) had three players in double figures led by David Brewster's game-high 16 points, 12 in the first half. Thornton added 14 points and RaShawn Polk contributed 13 for the Tigers.
The Colonials shot 50 percent (25-50) from the field and outrebounded the Tigers, 39-37, but turned over the ball 18 times. Towson shot just 37.3 percent (22-59) but nailed 10 three-pointers, including four by Polk.
GW will take nine-day break for final exams before facing East Carolina (4-5) on Thursday, Dec. 22 in a 7 p.m. game at Greenville, NC. The GW-ECU game will be broadcast live on 1500 AM and 820 AM as well as online at www.FederalNewsRadio.com.
