Women's Rowing Places Sixth at Atlantic 10 Championships

PENNSAUKEN, NJ - The George Washington University 2nd Novice 8 won its race as the Colonials finished sixth of nine teams at the 13th Annual Atlantic 10 Championships Saturday on the Cooper River. It is the second straight season which GW finished sixth at the conference championships.
The 2nd Novice Eight won in 7:53.6 and defeated Rhode Island, the 2008 Atlantic 10 champions, and Duquesne, who took fifth overall.
GW took fifth in the Varsity Eight in 7:24.9, just 16 seconds behind Rhode Island.
Additionally, The Colonials also finished fifth in 2nd Varisty Eight and fourth in the Novice Eight.
Also competing for GW was the Novice Four, who finished third, while GW took fifth in the Quad Grand Final.

Up next for the Colonials is a head-to-head matchup at Princeton on Saturday, May 3. The duel with the Tigers is followed by a matchup with crosstown rival Georgetown in the Class of 1998 Cup, an annual competition between the schools separated by just a few miles.
Head Coach Rob McCracken on his his team's performance at A-10's:
"I was pleased that we were able to qualify all of our boats for the grand final, but I had hoped that we would be able to medal in a lot of the events. Unfortunately, we had a few near misses and were well behind the pack in a few other races."
"The highlight of the weekend was certainly the 2nd Novice Eight. We switched around the line-ups for the novice boats throughout the week and we were able to put together a combination in that boat which worked really well together. I'm really proud that they were able to win a medal for GW today."
"My congratulations go out to Rhode Island for winning the team championship. They put together a total team effort that resulted in the win."
"While we didn't perform the way we wanted to this weekend, the plus is that the season is only at its midpoint. We have four weeks until Eastern Sprints which is a lot of time to work on changes that will make us faster."
