MORGANTOWN, WV - George Washington University gymnasts Leslie Delima (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem H.S.) and Kristen Simpson (Myrtle Beach, SC/Socastee H.S.) have earned First-Team All-EAGL honors as announced at the annual East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships Banquet last weekend at the Lakeview Resort in Morgantown, WV. First-Team honors were awarded to the top eight gymnasts on each event based on their Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). The RQS is calculated by taking the top six scores, three of which must be an away meet, throwing out the high score, and averaging the remaining five scores.
A freshman out of Virginia Beach, VA, Delima earned first-team recognition on the floor exercise with a 9.728 RQS as of March 17. Since that time, the rookie all-arounder has improved that mark to 9.77 in hopes of qualifying at least individually for NCAA Regional competition. In her last meet at Towson, Delima set her season-high on floor with a 9.825. Having not scored below a 9.575 on floor all season, Delima scored at least a 9.700 on the event in eight of eleven meets. She was also named EAGL Rookie of the Week on March 25 after notching a career-high 38.950 all-around, as she tied or set season-highs in three of four events, including her 9.825 on floor. Delima also earned second-team honors on all-around with a 38.530 RQS.
After earning second-team honors on vault as a freshman, Simpson, now a junior was named to the first-team on the apparatus after posting a 9.797 RQS as of March 17. The native of Myrtle Beach, SC has since improved that mark to 9.820, virtually locking her spot at NCAA Regional competition. After posting a school-record 9.950 on vault Feb. 24, which is also the best mark on the event of any EAGL gymnast this season, Simpson was subsequently named EAGL Specialist of the Week on Feb. 25. A three-time Academic All-EAGL selection, Simpson never scored below a 9.725 on vault this season, and posted at least 9.800 in five of eleven meets.
Sophomore Christa Devine (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai H.S.) was named Second-Team All-EAGL on both the bars and balance beam. Devine recorded a 9.740 RQS on bars with a season-high 9.825. The native of Mount Sinai, NY posted at least a 9.725 in seven of eleven meets on bars. Devine also posted a 9.6 or better on beam in six of eleven meets this season to earn All-EAGL recognition on beam.
Also earning Second-Team All-EAGL honors was sophomore Megan Quinn (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran H.S.), who earned recognition on the floor exercise with a 9.765 RQS. Quinn was a model of consistency on floor having never scored below a 9.600. The native of Syracuse, NY posted a 9.700 or better in nine of eleven meets this season, including her last eight straight meets.
