WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University gymnastics team travels to Morgantown, WV, to compete in the 2008 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships Saturday afternoon. The meet is set for 4:00 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
The Colonials, which are coming off a program-best fifth place finish at last year's EAGL Championships, currently stand fifth in the conference standings with a 193.000 Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). The RQS also determines the top 36 teams in the country, which will qualify for NCAA Regional competition. The RQS is calculated by taking the top six scores, three of which must be an away meet, throwing out the high score, and averaging the remaining five.
GW concluded the regular season March 21 with its best total score in over two years, with a 194.300 at Towson. The Colonials matched its season-high on bars (48.675), while setting new marks on both the balance beam (48.675) and floor exercise (48.900). The season-high on floor was the best mark recorded by a GW team since March 1, 2006, while the last time they recorded such a high-mark on beam was over fours ago, when the Colonials recorded a 49.175 against Air Force.
The EAGL is comprised of George Washington University of the Atlantic 10 Conference; the University of Maryland, University of North Carolina, and North Carolina State University of the Atlantic Coast Conference; the University of Pittsburgh, Rutgers University and West Virginia University of the Big East Conference and the University of New Hampshire of the America East Conference.
