2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Regional Finalists
ATLANTA, GA - George Washington senior guard Kimberly Beck (Fairburn, GA/Woodward Academy) was placed among the 52 regional finalists for the 2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Wednesday.
Beck was one of 10 finalists from Region I, joining three players each from Connecticut and Rutgers and one apiece from Louisville, West Virginia and Pittsburgh. Beck was the only Atlantic 10 player on the list of 52 regional finalists and the only non-Big East player chosen in Region I.
The 2008 A-10 Player of the Year, Beck became just the second player in league history and 11th player in NCAA Division I history to lead her conference in assists four consecutive seasons after averaging 6.3 assists for the Colonials this season. Beck, who earned first team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team honors for the third straight year, adds 13.3 points per game for No. 20/16 GW (25-6), which faces Auburn (20-11) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Stanford, CA, this Saturday.
A two-time final nominee for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which recognizes the nation's top point guard, Beck ranks third in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio and is the only player in Division I women's basketball history with at least 1,300 points, 700 assists, 300 rebounds, 200 steals and 60 assists in her career.
The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team selection committee will review these 52 candidates and cut the list to 40 finalists on Thursday, March 20. The 40 finalists will all be in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team. The State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team for NCAA Division I will be announced at the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team Press Conference at the Tampa Hyatt Regency on April 5, at 9:45 a.m. (ET) in Tampa, FL.
