BOCA RATON, FL - George Washington women's tennis was defeated for the second time in as many days in Boca Raton, FL, falling to Lynn University, 8-1, Tuesday afternoon. The Colonials fell to 5-7 overall while the Knights improved to 13-2 this season.
With the win, Lynn, a Division II school ranked No. 3 in the country, earned their fourth victory over a D-I opponent. The Fighting Knights have also defeated Florida Atlantic, Georgetown and Illinois-Chicago this year.
Lynn swept through doubles 3-0, with the closest match coming when Victoria Weltz and Alexandra Schunk, the third-ranked team in the country in Div-II, defeated Nadia Demidenko and Jennifer Hirsh, 8-4, in the top position. Flights two and three saw Katerina Jiskrova and Magdalena Ekert beat Madhuri Jha and Verena Knoedler, 8-1, while Alisson Siaci and Eloenora Iannozzi blanked Michele Style and Tracy Stecko, 8-0.
The Knights, won positions two through six in singles without dropping a set or losing more than three games in any stanza. Ekert and No. 14 Siaci also posted love-sets, defeating Knoedler 6-1, 6-0 and Style 6-0, 6-3 respectively in the fourth and sixth spots.
Eighteenth-ranked Schunk defeated Hirsh 6-1, 6-2 in the second flight, No. 17 Jiskrova beat Stecko 6-2, 6-1 in the third slot and Iannozzi topped Jha 6-1, 6-1 in the fifth position.
GW earned their lone point came in the top match, as Nadia Demidenko upended No. 20 Victoria Weltz 6-4, 6-2.
George Washington takes the rest of their spring break away from the courts and returns to action Thursday, Mar. 27, at Georgtown, at 2:00 p.m.
