
Women's Tennis Swept at UMBC, 7-0

BALTIMORE, MD - George Washington women's tennis was defeated by MD-Baltimore County, 7-0, Friday afternoon, in Baltimore, MD. The Colonials fell to 5-8 overall while the Retrievers improved to 6-3 this season.
After starting the season 4-0 in the fall season, GW has gone just 1-8 overall in spring play.
UMBC swept through doubles 3-0, with the closest match coming when Alice Chen and Cornelia Carapcea teamed-up to defeat Nadia Demidenko and Jennifer Hirsh, 8-5, in the top position. In flight two, Ana Mungo and Emily Mannix beat Madhuri Jha and Verena Knoedler, 8-4, while Joy Adewumi and Gabriela Furdyna earned the point in the No. 3 position when the duo of Michele Style and Tracy Stecko had to retire because of injury.
The Retrievers swept the singles play without dropping a set or losing more than three games in any stanza. Mungo, the No. 1 player for UMBC, posted a love-set, defeating Demidenko 6-2, 7-4.
George Washington faces Georgetown Wednesday, Apr. 2, at 1:30 p.m., at the Hoyas home courts in Washington, DC.
