Gymnastics Hosts EAGL Rival Pittsburgh Sunday Afternoon

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University gymnastics team hosts East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm, at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. The dual meet is also DC Brownie and Girl Scout Night.

The Colonials are coming off a win over EAGL rival Maryland last Friday, Feb. 15. Freshman Leslie Delima won the all-around with a season-high 38.600. Junior Kristen Simpson won the vault with a 9.750. GW scored a 48.450 as all five gymnasts scored at least a 9.650. Senior Carolyn Marckesano was first up in the rotation and scored a season-best, 9.650. Junior Erin Quigg followed her with a 9.700. Delima was third in the rotation and took home a 9.700, a season-high for the all-arounder. Senior McKenzie Parrack rounded out the scoring with a 9.650.
Senior Samantha DeBone leads Pittsburgh after taking first place on beam against No. 22 Ohio State, being the only Panther to capture an event title at the meet. DeBone scored a 9.775 for the title, and had a top finish on bars. With a team-high 9.750 on bars, DeBone placed fourth overall, and the best out of any Panther. Another top performer on beam was Sarah Thompson, who also outscored the Buckeyes. Thompson placed second behind DeBone, with a 9.750. Dani Bryan posted team-high scores with a 9.850 on floor and 9.750 on vault.
Up Next: The Colonials travel to Head Coach Margie Foster-Cunningham's alma mater Penn State to face the Nittany Lions, Bowling Green and SUNY Cortland, March 1 at 7:00 pm. Penn State is currently 16th in the nation.
