NORFOLK, VA -- GW senior David Zenk won both the 50- and 100-yd backstroke events while Davin Harding won the 100-yd butterfly to lead the GW men's swimming team in a dual meet Saturday afternoon against Old Dominion. The teams swam at Norfolk State's pool due to construction on the new recreational facility at Old Dominion.
The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming teams defeated George Washington over the weekend. The Old Dominion women's squad won all 13 events of its events en-route to a 156-102 victory over the Colonials. On the men's side, the Monarchs won, 159-109, over George Washington. The ODU men's team won 10 of the 13 events.
The Colonials' roster was hampered by a variety of injuries and illnesses and several members of the team did not make the trip to Norfolk.
There were no victories on the women's side but there were numerous second-place finishes from both the GW men and women. Colonials freshman Isabel Tawney took second in both the 50-yd backstroke (:27.24) and in the 100-yd backstroke (1:03.06). Senior Lauren Fuchs duplicated Tawney's finishes in both the 50-yd breaststroke (:32.59) and in the 100-yd breaststroke (1:11.19).
On the men's side, senior Tom Pullen placed second in three different events: the 50-yd breaststroke (:27.97) and in the 100-yd freestyle (:48.92) as well as in the 50-yd butterfly (:24.15). GW freshman Marshall Seedorff was second in the 50-yd freestle (:22.31) while both Harding and Zenk took second in the 500 freestyle (4:53.00) and the 200-yd IM (1:55.90), respectively.
On the women's side, junior Katrina Timlin was second in the 100-yd freestyle (:56.30) while Sarah Richards was second in the 500-yd freestyle (5:26.98). Senior Jessica Miga took second place in the 50-yd butterfly (:27.34) and junior Emily Leik was second in the 200-yd IM (2:16.72).
Next up for the Colonials is a winter training trip to Ponce, Puerto Rico from, Jan. 2-10. Following the training trip, GW competes Friday-Saturday, Jan. 16-17, at the Rhode Island Invitational in Kingston, RI.
